This text approaches the theme of Mathematical Education at university through the works presented at the first SIPEM (International Seminar about Research in Mathematical Education) in 2000. The works were grouped in four areas, all about university teaching: the one which investigates the teachers practice, the teachers social representation and the production of knowledge about teaching and learning; the one which focuses on the students conceptualization, reconstruction of meaning; the one which deals with conceptualization, reconstruction and production of meaning; the one which studies Mathematics as an instrument, as well the people who need Mathematics as such.
