Abstract

This is a descriptive study to verify the recognition in Brazil of the NANDA Nursing Diagnosis (ND). A structured questionnaire was used and tested. It was sent by mail to a sample of 205 nurses who had to classify the ND as to how often they got a correct diagnosis. Fifty-nine questionnaires were filled-in and returned, and then processed by the program Epi Info 6.0.The results show that most frequent ND were: anxiety (69,5%), risk of infection (67,8%), risk of impaired skin integrity (59,3%), impaired skin integrity (55,9%), sharp pain (52,5%) and impaired tissue integrity (44,1%). It was observed that nurses recognize some NANDA nursing diagnoses. However, the nursing diagnosis identification and documentation are considered very important for a systematic nursing practice.
