A biopolítica não é uma política da vida

Resumo

Em seu curso no Collège de France em 1975-1976 e no primeiro volume de sua História da Sexualidade, Michel Foucault apresentou uma teoria do biopoder cujo componente mais importante era a biopolítica. Esse conceito, que ele mesmo abandonou em favor de outras vias de pesquisa, teve, no entanto, um sucesso considerável nas ciências sociais. Porém, muito mais que uma política da vida, que a etimologia sugere, a biopolítica se revelou um governo de populações, comportamentos e práticas, deixando escapar o que podemos chamar de “vida mesma”. Retomando uma dupla linha de reflexão de Georges Canguilhem, de quem foi aluno, e de Hannah Arendt, cuja obra desconhecia, propomos neste texto retornar à substância da política da vida, entre o vivo e o vivido, entre zoé e bios, e, com base em trabalhos empíricos realizados sobre refugiados na França e sobre AIDS na África do Sul, apreender alguns dos desafios dessas políticas. Em particular, trata-se de pensar a vida do ponto de vista das desigualdades e da legitimidade.
