Abstract

A group of Trumpet´s teachers was invited to assess the instrumental performance of two students. Initially, the evaluation of the performance of the two students was held freely (without theoretical frameworks or specific instruments) and then based on the Scale of Evaluation of Musical Execution, which was based on Swanwick’s theory. The main objective of this research is to contrast the assessments done by Trumpet´s teachers, based on Scale of Evaluation of the Musical Execution (COSTA e BARBOSA, 2010), with the free assessments (without references) carried out by the same group of teachers. By comparing the two forms of evaluation, we verify the inconsistency of the assessments and judgments in respect to the performance of the students.

  • Maria Clara Costa, School of Health Technologies of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal)

    Maria Clara Pereira Fernandes Costa has a degree in Psychology from the University of Minho. In 2000 she presented her Master's thesis at the same institution in the area of School Psychology. She is currently preparing her PhD application in Psychology at the University of Aveiro. Since 1999 he has been working as a teacher in higher education, having collaborated with the University of Minho and the Catholic University. Currently he is teaching at the School of Education of Fafe and at the School of Health Technologies of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. He has oriented theses and research projects subordinated to the analysis of the teaching-learning process in a psychological perspective. She has published in the area of Educational Psychology.

  • Jaime Filipe Barbosa, Coimbra Music Conservatory (Portugal)

    Jaime Filipe Barbosa carried out his musical studies at the Conservatório de Música do Porto, where he completed in 1993 the Complete Trumpet Course (Pedagogical Exp. 1971). More recently, in 2007, he finished his degree in Educational Orientation at Escola Superior de Educação de Fafe. As a trumpet player, he collaborates with institutions like the Porto National Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Beiras, among others, and performs regularly in chamber music groups. He is, since 1995, trumpet teacher in Coimbra Music Conservatory and in Oliveira de Azeméis Music Academy.
