Tradição Maxakali e conhecimento científico: diferentes perspectivas para o conceito de transformação

Buscando elementos para planejar o ensino de ciências em escolas indígenas, procuramos encontrar convergências e divergências entre a tradição Maxakali, grupo indígena de Minas Gerais, e o pensamento científico. As ideias propostas por Viveiros de Castro (2002a) sobre o pensamento ameríndio nos auxiliaram a compreender a visão de mundo deste povo. Analisando episódios de aulas de química com alunos/professores Maxakali, encontramos três tipos de explicações que eles apresentam para contextos envolvendo o que denominamos transformações químicas: uma totalmente divergente da ciência, considera a ação dos espíritos – yãmĩ; outra, mais convergente, está embasada em aspectos materiais e energéticos; e uma terceira em que os dois aspectos estão presentes. Concluimos que contextos onde haja convergência entre os dois pensamentos podem ser utilizados em sala de aula para criar intercompreensão intercultural (Gasché, 2004) entre índios e não-índios, possível caminho para o ensino de ciências nas escolas indígenas.
