Ao longo dos anos, a área de Educação em Ciências tem passado por transformações, sendo influenciada pelos contextos político, econômico, social e cultural. São muito claras as influências políticas e econômicas para a expansão de Ciências como disciplina escolar para toda a educação básica no início da segunda metade do século XX, quando o país passava por expansão na sua ocupação territorial, com a construção de Brasília, e o mundo todo via o crescimento das indústrias no período pós Segunda Grande Guerra (Krasilchick, 2000).
Mais recentemente, junto aos avanços trazidos pelas pesquisas em Psicologia Cognitiva e pelas pesquisas em História, Filosofia e Sociologia das Ciências, a pesquisa em Educação em Ciências recebe cada vez mais respaldo para propor modos de envolver os estudantes e os professores com temas e conteúdos das ciências (Duschl, & Grandy, 2008, Jiménez-Aleixandre, & Crujeiras, 2017).
Neste cenário, o Ensino de Ciências por Investigação tem se destacado como uma linha de estudo na pesquisa em Educação em Ciências e como uma abordagem didática nas salas de aula. Dentre suas bases, fundem-se o papel ativo dos estudantes, o ensino para a apresentação aos estudantes de elementos da cultura científica, a construção de relações entre práticas escolares e práticas cotidianas e a aprendizagem para a mudança social...
